Requirements Analysis
We see a limitation with Requirements Analysis that needs to be broken, in the same way that CPM broke the limitation on Project Management - that is, a computer stitches together all the pieces of the puzzle, and then runs analysis on the complete picture.
Medical Notes
At the moment, Medical Notes are opaque to computer methods. Sure, key word hooks can be dragged through them in the hope of snagging something useful, but the notes are far richer than that (and not everybody uses the same words, or the same part of speech). By creating structures that accurately represent body processes, diseases and disorders, the computer can reason about what the notes actually say.
Call Centre Support
Some call centres, such as health Insurance, have thousands of complex and legalistic documents supporting their millions of customers. It is unrealistic to expect the call centre operator to be versed in the nuances of the different documents. The structure can be extracted from the documents and updated from the current state of the caller, so that the operator has support for any question that may be thrown at them.
Semantic Searching
Google is great, except when you get a million hits and the answer is in there somewhere. Giving people the ability to describe what they want and have the machine go off and find it will revolutionise research, but first we have to have effective knowledge representation - more like activation, so the knowledge helps us to find things, not just be words on a page.
