Active Structure
Semantic Extraction and Deployment
Technology
ORION Active Structure technology has been developed over the last twenty years. It is an approach to knowledge representation that permits immediate activation of the knowledge.
The problem of knowledge representation starts with something as simple as A + B = C. There is a logical connection to the EQUALS sign, and that needs to be represented too, in an undirected way, otherwise meaning  is lost. Only when everything is correct at this low level, can we move on to more complex statements involving relations and a wide range of logical constructions - existential, propositional, relational, temporal, locational. This integration is essential to catch all the meaning of free text, and yet most of it we have never been trained in - we just picked it up as we grew up. We can't expect a machine to do that, and we should expect the machine to be accurate and precise in its reasoning - we want it to help us, not we help it. If we have integrated all these aspects successfully, then we can be confident all of the meaning of the text has ben captured in the semantic structure.
